During the latest Webmaster Hangout, Google’s John Mueller answered a question about how frequently updating title tags can affect a site’s search engine optimization.
It was about a website with information about stock quotes. To show up-to-date prices, the site owner has to update the title tags daily. He asked if it hurts SEO.
From an SEO standpoint, updating title tags daily does not provide any benefit, according to Mueller. Therefore, it is up to the site owner to decide whether it is worth doing this for users. The page will not receive additional weight in ranking, but there will be no harm either.
It’s important to keep in mind that Google won’t be able to change title tags in search as often, says SearchEngines. Therefore, it may turn out that the title in the search results is already outdated, although it is up-to-date on the site.
NIXSolutions adds that when asked if Google would crawl a site more often if it noticed that page titles were constantly updated, Mueller said no. It is impossible to predict what decision the search engine will make. Google may re-crawl pages every day, every week, or every month, but changing titles frequently doesn’t affect this.
