NIX Solutions: Chrome 130 Update – New Features and Fixes

Google has released a new version of the Chrome browser, version 130, available for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and iPadOS. This update resolves 17 vulnerabilities and introduces several new features across platforms.

New Features for Desktop and Mobile

The Android version now supports opening PDF files and works with third-party password managers and autofill services. Additionally, both mobile and desktop versions enable users to open arbitrary content, including videos, in Picture-in-Picture mode. On desktop, Chrome can “hibernate” inactive tabs, improving power efficiency by conserving CPU resources. Tabs become inactive when they remain idle for five minutes without playing audio, video, or being involved in communication tasks.

Chrome uses APIs to monitor USB connections, cameras, and other devices to decide which tabs can be frozen. When tabs enter hibernation, they disconnect from the Internet until the user reactivates them.

Internal Changes and Accessibility Improvements

Chrome 130 introduces internal optimizations, such as support for Brotli and Zstandard compression algorithms for accessing external dictionaries. The visibility of hidden web elements has also changed—now they trigger a specific style rather than disappearing entirely. The update includes new network filters and a tool for removing confidential data from saved HTTP sessions in HAR format, adds NIX Solutions.

Chrome now offers improved accessibility by recognizing non-standard URLs and providing new ways to interact with scrollable areas. Users can select and navigate these areas using only the Tab key and mouse control buttons, eliminating the need for a physical mouse.

Notifications about completed transactions are also more streamlined, now appearing as subtle strips for easier tracking. We’ll keep you updated on further enhancements to Chrome’s functionality as new updates roll out.
