In April, the e-commerce market in the USA showed an increase of 49%. This is evidenced by the data of the new Adobe report.
Data for April was compared with data for the period in early March – before the introduction of quarantine measures.
The leading driver of the e-commerce market growth in the reporting period was the category “Food”. According to it, the increase was 110%.Electronics sales were up 58%, and book sales doubled.
Clothing prices fell 12%, the largest monthly decline in 5 years. The average for this category in April was -2.9%, says SearchEngines.
As for the demand in this category, in April sales in pajamas increased (+ 143%) and fell in office clothes such as trousers and jackets (by 13% and 33%, respectively).
In addition to growth in certain categories of goods, Adobe also recorded tangible growth in orders such as “buy online, pick up at the store”.
From April 1 to April 20, the number of such orders increased by 208% year on year, says NIX Solutions.
At the same time, analysts at Adobe note that the massive transition of trade to online can lead to higher prices for goods in online stores. If earlier on the Internet the goods were cheaper, now this trend seems to be coming to an end. And the COVID-19 epidemic catalyzed this process.
The Adobe report is based on the analysis of more than 1 trillion online transactions for 100 million SKU. The company has partnered with 80 of the top 100 online retailers in the United States to collect this data.
