Google has begun testing a new AI-powered feature called Ask Photos, which allows users to ask questions about their photos and receive answers based on the content. The search feature in the Google Photos app is also being updated to enable more intuitive image searches.
Ask Photos and Improved Search Capabilities
The Ask Photos feature utilizes the Gemini AI assistant to analyze photos and provide answers alongside relevant images. This enhancement will make it easier for users to find information about past events and recall important moments captured in their photos. Google suggests that the feature can be used for various tasks, such as summarizing recent trips or selecting the best family photos for a shared album.
In addition to Ask Photos, Google has improved the traditional image search in the Google Photos app, now referred to as “classic search.” Users will be able to search for photos using natural language queries, such as “Alice and me laughing.” For added convenience, search results can be sorted by date or relevance. Initially, this feature will be available in English on both Android and iOS platforms, with support for additional languages expected in the coming weeks.
Redesigned Interface and Future Updates
To accommodate these changes, Google has replaced the Library tab with a new Collection page, designed to simplify the process of finding photos and videos. The company promises that the intuitive language search will help users locate specific images without the need to scroll through thousands of photos or apply location-based filters, notes NIXsolutions.
As these new features are rolled out, Google aims to enhance the user experience and make photo organization more efficient. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments or improvements to the Google Photos app as they become available.
