Firefox 137 introduces several improvements to the address bar. It now functions as a calculator—enter a mathematical expression, and the answer will appear in the suggested results. Additionally, it can recognize new third-party search engines, allowing queries to be redirected directly to a specific site instead of Google.
A new search engine selection button has been added, along with quick access to browsing history, open tabs, bookmarks, and settings using the tags @bookmarks, @tabs, @history, and @actions. When entering a search query, pressing Enter no longer changes the text to a URL, making it easier to edit for repeated searches.
These features are not yet available to all users but can be enabled manually in the about:config menu by activating the flags: browser.urlbar.quicksuggest.enabled, browser.urlbar.unifiedSearchButton.always, and browser.urlbar.suggest.calculator.
Tab Grouping and PDF Improvements
Firefox 137 introduces tab grouping by name or color. To create a group, simply drag one tab onto another. NIXSOLUTIONS adds that users can now add handwritten signatures to PDF files and open links with a single click.
On Android and Linux, the browser has also gained support for hardware-accelerated video decoding in the HEVC (H.265) format.
We’ll keep you updated on further improvements. The full list of changes is available on the developers’ website.
